Our address is Führichgasse 10, in the heart of the 1st district. The Albertina is directly opposite, the Vienna State Opera is a few steps away, and St Stephen’s Cathedral is five minutes on foot. Few hotels in Vienna place so much within such easy reach: the city’s great sights, its finest shopping streets, its restaurants, coffee houses and theatres. Step outside, and Vienna begins.
Getting here and transport connections
The hotel is wonderfully central, but also easy to reach. Stephansplatz (U1/U3) and Karlsplatz (U1/U2/U4) underground stations are both only a short walk away. From there, the Prater, Schönbrunn Palace, the main railway station and the rest of Vienna are easily accessible.

Sights within walking distance – what you can reach in just a few minutes
If you stay at The Guesthouse Vienna, you can reach many of the city’s most important sights without a taxi, tram or underground. These are the key distances from our front door:
Albertina
Right opposite, less than 50 metres away. One of the world’s most significant collections of graphic art, plus major temporary exhibitions ranging from classical modernism to the present day. You leave our hotel and find yourself standing in front of the museum.
Vienna State Opera
A 2-minute walk. From some of our Deluxe Rooms, you can see the opera house’s façade directly from your window. An evening at the opera begins here with a view of the building and ends with a short walk back to the hotel.
St Stephen’s Cathedral
A 5-minute walk. Vienna’s landmark, the ‘Steffl’, with its 136-metre-high south tower. The cathedral has been the heart of the city – both geographically and symbolically – since the 12th century.
Hofburg
A 5-minute walk. The former imperial residence of the Habsburgs, now the official residence of the Federal President. With the Sisi Museum, the Spanish Riding School, the Imperial Treasury and the National Library, it’s enough to fill a whole day.

burggarten and Butterfly House
A 5-minute walk. A green oasis right in the city centre, featuring the Mozart monument and the Art Nouveau Palm House, where hundreds of tropical butterflies flit about.
Jewish Museum
A 5-minute walk. The first Jewish museum was founded in Vienna in 1895; it was the first of its kind in the world. Through religious festivals and customs, the Jewish Museum Vienna offers an insight into the history and present-day life of Vienna’s Jewish community.
Heidi Horten Collection
A 3-minute walk. For art lovers, the Heidi Horten Collection is an absolute must-see. This boutique museum offers a captivating experience featuring masterpieces of modern and contemporary art.
Museum of Art History
A 10-minute walk. One of the world’s most important art museums, on Maria-Theresien-Platz opposite the Natural History Museum. Vermeer, Bruegel, Caravaggio, Raphael – all under one roof.
Museum Quarter and the Leopold Museum
A 12-minute walk. Vienna’s largest cultural complex, home to the Leopold Museum, mumok and the ZOOM Children’s Museum. In summer, the inner courtyard is one of the city’s most popular meeting places.
MAK – Museum of Applied Arts
A 10-minute walk. The MAK – Museum of Applied Arts. The collection comprises over 900,000 objects and printed works spanning five centuries – outstanding examples of applied arts, design, architecture, fashion, and contemporary visual and digital art.
Naschmarkt
A 12-minute walk. Vienna’s largest and best-known market, with over 120 stalls. Fresh fruit, cheese, spices and fish, as well as restaurants and cafés. On Saturdays, there’s also a large flea market.
City Park & Johann Strauss Monument
A 10-minute walk. The Stadtpark is one of Vienna’s most beautiful green spaces and is the perfect place for a leisurely stroll amongst historic buildings and well-tended gardens. It is particularly famous for the gilded Johann Strauss monument, one of the city’s most photographed landmarks.
St Stephen’s Cathedral on your doorstep
St Stephen’s Cathedral is more than a landmark. It is the point around which Vienna seems to turn. From the hotel, it is a short, lovely walk along Kärntner Straße to Stephansplatz, past shop windows, street musicians and the everyday life of the old city.
The cathedral is open daily and free to enter. Tickets are needed for the south tower, with its 343 steps, and for guided tours of the catacombs. Stephansplatz is especially beautiful in the evening, when the cathedral is lit and the daytime crowds have thinned.
Shopping in Vienna’s city centre
The hotel is right in Vienna’s best shopping district. Kärntner Straße begins a few steps away and leads to Stephansplatz. From there, the Graben and Kohlmarkt open up: elegant streets with international luxury brands, traditional Viennese houses and Köchert, the former imperial court jeweller, on Neuer Markt.
There is plenty to discover beyond the main streets too: R. Horn’s Wien for handmade leather goods, Leschanz for chocolates and pralines, Augarten porcelain, Kussmund for carefully selected beauty products, and PINTU for stylish dog accessories. These are not anonymous chains, but places with history, craft and character – very much in the spirit of our hotel.
Evening culture within walking distance
Our location is particularly lovely in the evening. The Vienna State Opera is two minutes away. The Burgtheater is ten minutes along the Ringstrasse. The Konzerthaus and Musikverein, home of the Vienna Philharmonic, are both about ten minutes on foot. Theater an der Wien, the Volkstheater and the Akademietheater are also within easy reach.
Go to the opera or a concert, then stroll back through Vienna’s illuminated old city. No taxi, no parking, no hurry – just a beautiful walk home.
Culinary neighbourhood – restaurants, bars and cafés
Loos American Bar
A 3-minute walk. Adolf Loos was a pioneer of architecture. What many people don’t realise, however, is that the Loos Bar is a marvellous exception in this visionary’s body of work, as he primarily designed villas. Where else can you sip a cocktail in a listed bar?
Café Central
An 8-minute walk. The legendary Viennese coffee house where Trotsky once played chess and Peter Altenberg wrote his works.
PICCOLINA
One minute away, at most. Directly opposite the hotel, in the Film Museum, we opened our little outpost in June 2026: Piccolina, an Italian aperitivo bar with excellent coffee, antipasti and a generous touch of dolce vita. A lovely place to enjoy Vienna’s old city over a glass of Franciacorta.
Café Prückel
A ten-minute walk. Café Prückel is one of Vienna’s great traditional coffee houses, loved since 1903 for its atmosphere on the Ringstrasse. Its listed 1950s interior, designed according to plans by Oswald Haerdtl, has barely changed – which is exactly why it feels so special.
Brasserie
No walk at all. Our Brasserie is on the ground floor, open daily from 6.30 am to 11.00 pm, serving à la carte breakfast, business lunch and a seasonal evening menu. It is loved by hotel guests and Viennese regulars alike – especially on evenings when staying close to home feels just right.
Pöschl Inn
A seven-minute walk. Gasthaus Pöschl is a classic Viennese inn in the heart of the city, loved by locals and visitors for good reason. Expect careful cooking, Austrian classics and an atmosphere that feels genuine rather than staged. If you want traditional Viennese food away from the obvious tourist routes, this is a very good choice.

The hotel is in the heart of Vienna’s old city, with something worth discovering on almost every corner. Here are a few of our own favourites – places with character, craft and a little local magic.
R. Horn's
R. Horn’s Wien designs and makes fine leather goods in Vienna, inspired by the spirit of the Viennese avant-garde around 1900. You can feel echoes of Otto Wagner, Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos and the Wiener Werkstätte in the clear lines and meticulous craft. Timeless, practical, beautifully made.
Leschanz, Vienna’s chocolate king
Wolfgang Leschanz is known in Vienna as the city’s “Chocolate King”. The shop in the 1st district has a long history: it opened in 1844, first became famous as the “Button King”, and later served the imperial court. Today, just a few minutes from the Guesthouse, it is the place for handmade chocolates and pralines.
Burg Cinema
Founded in 1912, the Burg Kino is one of the world’s oldest cinemas still in operation. It is best known for regular screenings of The Third Man (1949), filmed in Vienna, and has always specialised in films shown in their original language.
Köchert Jewellers
A.E. Köchert has been one of Vienna’s leading jewellers for more than 200 years. Appointed imperial court jeweller in 1849, the house created, among other treasures, Empress Sisi’s famous diamond stars. Today, jewellery is still made by hand at Neuer Markt, with the same devotion to detail.

AttrE
Viennese jewellery designer Maria Zelenko brings traditional goldsmithing together with minimalist design at Attrē. Her pieces, made from 18-carat gold and natural diamonds, are quietly elegant and beautifully precise. A small selection is available at the Guesthouse Gift Shop; the full collection can be found at the Attrē Studio at Seilerstätte 2.
Augarten Porcelain Manufactory
Founded in 1718, Augarten is one of Vienna’s great porcelain names. Every piece is still made and painted by hand in the city, with production based at Augarten Palace since 1923. A beautiful place for anyone who appreciates craft, tradition and objects made to last.
