A romantic weekend in Vienna: a boutique hotel for couples
Vienna is one of Europe’s most romantic cities, though never in an obvious way. No rose petals on the bed, no grand declarations. Its romance is quieter: evening light on Baroque façades, a glass of Grüner Veltliner in an old vaulted cellar, Klimt’s The Kiss at the Belvedere, the sound of hooves on cobblestones.

Why Vienna is made for a weekend for two
Many cities promise romance. Vienna hardly needs to try. Its charm lies in the ease with which high culture and everyday pleasure meet. In the morning, you can stand in front of an original Klimt; in the afternoon, sit in a coffee house where time seems to have slowed; in the evening, hear an opera in one of the world’s great houses – directly opposite our hotel.
It works just as well for an anniversary as for a first weekend away together. Vienna is a city to stroll through, not tick off. That is exactly what makes it so good for a short escape.
Romantic Vienna – our recommendations
Klimt’s The Kiss at the Belvedere – Few works of art are more closely linked with love. The Upper Belvedere, where it hangs, is one of Vienna’s loveliest settings, with Baroque gardens and views across the city. Go in the morning, when it is quieter.
A horse-drawn carriage ride through the Old Town – A classic, yes, and still worth it. Especially in the evening, when the city centre is lit softly, and the carriage passes the Opera, the Hofburg and St Stephen’s Cathedral. Carriages leave from Albertinaplatz, just steps from the hotel.
A Heuriger in the Vienna vineyards – An evening in Neustift am Walde or on the Nussberg is Vienna at its most relaxed: local wine, simple Viennese food and views over the vines. Our concierge will be happy to recommend the right place.
Opera or concert – The Vienna State Opera is directly opposite The Guesthouse. Dinner in the Brasserie, an evening at the opera, then a walk back through the illuminated city: simple, and very hard to improve on.
Coffee house hopping – From Café Central to Hawelka and Sperl, each house has its own atmosphere. Choose two or three, take the afternoon slowly, and let the city do the rest.
Vintage car city tour – Our 1967 Mercedes 250 S, still in its original condition, is available with a chauffeur. A private tour for two, and something you will not find anywhere else in Vienna.
The right room for two
For a romantic weekend, we recommend our Deluxe Rooms or the Maisonette Suite. The Deluxe Rooms offer more than 30 m², a comfortable window seat and views of the State Opera, especially beautiful after dark. The minibar is stocked with Austrian wine – a lovely way to begin the evening.
If you would like more space, the Maisonette Suite extends over two levels, with open architecture and plenty of daylight. The Courtyard Deluxe Room on the top floor has a freestanding bath and a view towards St Stephen’s Cathedral. For many couples, that is reason enough to choose it.
A weekend for something special
Many of our guests come to Vienna for an anniversary, a birthday or a proposal. We are well suited to those moments because we are small enough to look after individual wishes, and experienced enough to know what matters.
A bottle of champagne in the room, flowers, a late check-out for a slow Sunday morning, or a table at just the right restaurant – tell us what you have in mind. We will take care of the details quietly and reliably, so you can focus on each other.
How your weekend might unfold
Friday: Arrive, check in, open a first bottle from the minibar. In the evening, stroll across Albertinaplatz and along Augustinerstraße, then have dinner in the Brasserie or at one of the restaurants nearby.
Saturday: À la carte breakfast at the Bakery. Klimt’s The Kiss at the Belvedere in the morning, a coffee house in the afternoon, then back to the hotel to get ready for the evening. Opera, concert or cocktails at the Loos Bar – all close by.
Sunday: Sleep a little longer, enjoy breakfast without hurry, perhaps visit the Naschmarkt or take a carriage ride through the old city. Late check-out is available on request.
